1965 Brabham BT16 Manual

BRAHBAM BT16 1965. A truly amazing and never to be repeated opportunity in securing a very sought after and desirable piece of F2 racing history. This Brabham BT16 was bought directly from the factory MRD (Motor Racing Developments) at Blyfleet in the UK by John Coombes Racing. The John Coombes F2 racing team at the time, the main driver was Graham Hill who later went on to become F1 World Champion. This car was raced by Graham Hill in the F2 formula category both in the UK and on the continents using a 1 litre + Formula 2 BRM engine. Its most prominent win was in 1966 at the Barcelona GP which was piloted by Graham Hill. Now owned in private collection and being offered for sale by us, after being stored in previous private collections for many, many years.

The car figured prominently in the top 3 finishers in both the UK and other continents during the seasons of '65-'66. In 1966 this Brabham chassis F2-8-65 was purchased by Alec Mildren Racing and brought to Australia for Frank Gardner to race in the Tasman Series 1967. Frank took out the Horden Trophy in 1967 as one of the cars successes. This car raced in the Tasman in series along-side Sir Jackie Stewart and signed by him at the recent Race Against Dementia charity event, The car then passed through various hands including racing legend Fred Gibson of later fame Gibson Motorsport and arrived in WA in 1971 where it ran at Wanneroo. The Brabham BT16 was full restored in 1992 to John Coombes racing colours of marron and grey and has competed with great acclaim in WA in various Hill Climbs, Round House Events and race sprints.

This is an excellent example of the marque which eventually evolved into those race cars that won Sir Jack Brabham the world championship on three occasions. An extensive list of work carried out with recent once over service and inspection report completed, documented history, photos, magazines, Cams Log Books and a list of other podiums as well, such as 3rd at the Australian GP driven by Frank Gardner, 2nd to Jim Clark at BRM in 1965, 2nd to Jim Clark at London Trophy, 3rd at Sandown driven by Frank Gardner, 12th at X BARC 200 in 1965 driven by Graham Hill finished in front of Bruce McLaren, Frank Gardner, Jackie Stewart and Jim Clark. A piece of motoring history that would sit proudly in any serious collection anywhere in the world BUT we are very lucky it has stayed in Australia till now, this is astute investment buying.
